Tips - episode 1

If you want to use figuretree to balance incomings and outgoings, simply place a – “minus” sign in the quantity column before the quantity figure. Remember, this can be a decimal.

e.g. You develop a flat budget, and there are 5 flatmates paying a total of $550 per week. You’d simply place -.2 in the quantity column (one fifth), and $550 in the unit cost column, to be given an amount of rent payable -$110. This will then be an outgoing amount from the total cost.

Feel free to make contact if you have any questions.

A small tweak to our calculation function

A nice thing about figuretree is that it does calculations ‘as you type’ using Javascript.

This lead to a surprising problem recently, though. Using negative amounts in your rows – as many people do when creating budgets – could cause the rounding to be off while you were working. (Printable versions weren’t affected, just the editable sheets.) The problem has now been fixed, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused!
